Velodrome d’Horta housing the training of the Barcellona RHC 2014 riders

my Barcelona Red Hook Crit 2014 experience starts here, at the Barcelona Riders Hostel, official “dormitory” of the RHC riders. GREAT weekend ahead!

An amazing pic of the Strada Costiera in 1956. Unbelievably beautiful, and with a cyclist training behind the Vespa. Only the Prof finds them.

Dreaming of Bagarre

Even if I’m not even remotely close to being as professional as I look in this shot by Meow Team Photos (thanks Silvia & Chiara), in my lucid dreams I can recall it and pretend I am. Well since I can pretend, let’s imagine the background’s Barcelona, it’s 200mt to the finish line (which among other things says “Red Hook Crit”) and behind me is a gnarling pack with Alessandro Bruzza, Mario Paz Duque, Neil Bezdek and Rainier Schaefer aiming at my ass.

HTR . Interview with David Trimble of Red Hook Criterium Race from LAB8 on Vimeo.

First episode of HTR about who’s behind the scene of cycling culture and races in New York City.

Featuring David Trimble:

The Red Hook Criterium (RHC) is an unsanctioned race held at night featuring a fixed gear criterium and a 5km running race held over multiple laps of a short technical circuit. The field consists of elite athletes, track stars, amateur runners, professional cyclists, bike messengers, and urban cyclists. The RHC was born in the post-industrial Brooklyn neighborhood Red Hook.

This unique event combines the underground art of street racing with the intensity of high level competition in a spectacular urban environment.

First held in 2008 to celebrate organizer David Trimble’s birthday, the RHC has established itself as a prestigious and much loved event in both the local community and greater athletic world. This fast, intense, and spectator friendly race is the pinnacle of a weekend of events that includes dinners, art exhibitions, parties, and group bicycle rides and runs.

Red Hook Crit 7 Brooklyn 2014 from crihs on Vimeo.

The Red Hook Crit first hit the cobbles of Red Hook in 2008. With less than 20 competitors. Now with almost 300 racers fighting for position to qualify, RHC has grown immensely. Crowds in the thousands come to Red Hook Brooklyn to cheer on friends, family or just simply to spectate.

This year RHC has added a women’s field to the program to add to the mens race and the mens and women’s running race. With a full schedule in 2014, there was only one challenge in everyones way. The weather!

With 30 plus women in the starting line, everyone was excited for the first installment of the RHC women’s field. Ash Duban was selected by Trimble Racing as the favorite. She did not disappoint by qualifying first to meet that pressure. On the mens side it was Neil Bezdek who was picked the pre-race favorite to come back and win the race again. Watch as an exciting race filled evening unfolded in both crits.

Thanks to the support of I love NY more than you, Bikestock, Bicycle Film Festival and Trimble Racing.

The awesome crew who braved the weather all day.

Doug Dalrymple, JP Bevins, Hiromi Bruni, Jeremy Hercules, Chris Schwartz, Jupiter Jones, Joseph Huba and Brean Shea.
